POSSESSION
1. Noncontrolled species” are live, exotic wildlife species, subspecies, or hybrid of that species that may be possessed, sold, purchased or exchanged in the state without a permit. An uncontrolled species may not be released into the wild. Non-controlled species that are allowed are as follows:
Carettochelyidae (New Guinea softshell turtles)
Chelidae (snake-necked turtles)
Chelydridae (snapping turtles)
Dermatemydidae (Central American river turtle)
Emydidae (pond turtles)
Kinosternidae (mud turtles and musk turtles)
Pelomedusidae (hidden-necked turtles)
Platysternidae (big-headed turtle)
Testudinidae (tortoises)
Trionychidae (soft-shelled turtles)
2. The sale or purchase of Red-eared Sliders is prohibited
TAKING FROM THE WILD
1. Nothing in the hunting or fishing regulations deals with native turtles. It is therefore assumed, the take for personal use is legal.
COMMERCIAL
1. Reptiles native to Montana may not be taken for commercial purposes.
