  Ibera Greeks are a hardier species and are usually easier to care for than their  golden cousins.  Another testudo tortoise, the Ibera greek is a robust little tortoise reaching sizes from 7-12″.   Like seen in other tortoise species, female Greeks get larger than the males, similar to the Hermann’s tortoise.

A highly domed carapace joins the singly hinged plastron by a thick bridge. The coloration ranges from yellow-gold to dark brown or black. Flecks, borders, rays and spots on the shell produce a pattern reminiscent of a Greek mosaic, hence the common name.

One to three raised scales, spurs or tubercles are located on either side of the tail, on each thigh (these spurs are the reason for the alternate name, the Mediterranean spurred tortoise).

Providing a light dusting of a 50/50 mix of a reptile vitamin and calcium with d3 is important.  Lightly dust or sprinkle on top of the fresh food twice a week.  Providing proper UVB exposure is also very important in calcium metabolization.

Turtle store uses reptical and reptivite mixtures.  Using a combination of a reptile vitamin and a reptile calcium with D3 is key. Dust your tortoises food twice a week by lightly sprinkling the mixture a top their fresh greens.

Ibera Greek tortoise UVB Lighting

Always provide your new baby Greek tortoise for sale with the right UVB.  We recommend using a 10% or 12% UVB Lamp.  The higher you mount the lamp from the substrate, the stronger lamp need be used.
